Times Tables Rockstars

Knowing your times tables and being able to recall them rapidly and accurately is an incredibly useful life skill. It also helps with so many other related areas of maths.
Times Tables Rock Stars is a fun and exciting way for children to learn their times tables. It is a carefully sequenced programme of times tables practice.
Children can take part in games online to improve their fluency and accuracy when answering times table questions. To be a Times Table Rock Star you need to answer any multiplication fact up to 12×12 in less than 3 seconds! For every right answer, you earn coins to buy accessories for your avatar. As your speed increases, you also improve your Rock Status. As well as playing independent games, children can take part in tournaments against other classes, year groups and even teachers in the school!
What games can be played in TTRS?
Game mode 1: Jamming: The only free choice game. Allowing your child the choice over the tables they practise and whether to including multiplication, division or both. Perfect for building confidence on tables of choice.
Game mode 2: Gig: a baseline and checking game mode. Children are given 100 questions in 5 minutes and cover all times table facts up to 12 x 12. 10 coins earned for each correct answer.
Game mode 3: Garage: the best mode to master individual times table facts. Highly rewarding, earning 10 coins per answer. A choice of game length (1,2 or 3 mins) with questions determined through the data-informed algorithm within TTRS, this will allow a purposeful practise every time this mode is played. As children practise similar questions the algorithm will adapt and select the 6 highest priority facts from the current table.
Game mode 4: Studio: speed based. An initial ‘speed’ is calculated once the first 10 games are played in this mode. The average speed is then calculated on the most recent 10 studio games. This game mode covers all times table facts up to 12 x 12. Children earn 1 coin per correct answer. As a school we have set guidelines for each year group (see end of this letter) to guide the times expected in recall of times table facts.
Game mode 5: Soundcheck: 25 questions each with a 6-second time limit. This mode mirrors the Government’s multiplication check (MTC) that children sit at the end of Year 4. This mode asks questions up to and included 12 x 12. 5 coins are awarded for each correct answer.
What do the coins mean?
Coins allow children to build their ‘avatar’ and support their class on the whole school leader board.
